  • What to see
    Church, excavations in the underground

A beautiful white stone Franciscan church with an atrium stands today in the place where tradition claims that the miracle of the Wedding at Cana took place. Pilgrims from the 16th century identified the place by finding an underground room under a building that looked like an old church.

The place has been the property of the Custody of the Holy Land since 1879. The temple, which uses elements of the previous building, was consecrated in 1906 and renovated in 1997. At that time, a series of archaeological excavations were carried out which revealed that at that time In the place there was a synagogue, and a cistern that can be visited in the current subsoil, and that reminds us of the great stone jars for the purifications that Jesus had to turn into wine.
