The Church of Santa Chiara, also known as Madonna del Popolo, is located in Guardiagrele, Chieti province. Originally part of a Clarissan convent founded in 1276, it was mentioned in papal documents and noble wills. The convent was suppressed in 1809 and demolished in 1867, with its garden transformed into the town park in 1913. In 1927, the façade and portal were restored in Neo-Romanesque style by Felice Giuliante, and the church was rededicated to the Madonna del Popolo. The single-nave interior boasts rich Baroque stucco decorations, side altars, a carved pulpit, and a wooden crucifix. It houses significant 18th and 19th-century paintings by Nicola Ranieri and Donato Teodoro, including the “Pietà”, the “Fall of the Rebel Angels”, and the “Madonna Immacolata”.
