The San Rocco Sanctuary in Roccamontepiano dates back to the 17th century, when a church was built to seek protection from the 1654 plague that ravaged the Kingdom of Naples. The original structure, modest and small, was erected near a sacred grotto, but in 1765, a devastating earthquake destroyed much of the town and the church. Despite this, devotion to the saint never waned. In the 1950s, the sanctuary was rebuilt using materials from the previous church, including the base of the bell tower. The current building features a Neo-Romanesque tripartite façade, with three portals leading to the respective naves. Inside, the baroque octagonal tabernacle altar houses the processional statue of San Rocco. A subterranean passage leads to the miraculous grotto, where the sacred water of San Rocco flows. This water is believed to have healing properties and is used in purification rituals on August 16, during the celebrations honoring the saint.
